Civil Engineering Department

The Department of Civil Engineering came into existence since the inception of the institute in October 1965. The Department offers Three Years Diploma Programmes in Civil Engineering with an intake of 60 students. Diploma holders in Civil Engineering from this Institute have a good blend of theory and practical knowledge and are recognized for the purpose of recruitment to all subordinates posts and services under the State Government, State Government Undertaking, Central Government, Central Government under taking and various Public Sectors and Private Sectors and different Companies of the country.Diploma holders in Civil Engineering from this Institute a re also eligible for undergoing Bachelor of Engineering/Technology courses offered in different Institutes of the country.

Highlights on the curriculum

At the present instance, the curriculum is more of a practical-oriented and skill-based semester pattern.The Civil Engineering Department with its record of quality diploma holders holds an important position in this part of the world, it is the most comprehensive engineering program requiring minimum total of 130 credits for award of Diploma, with 23 credits of Foundation Course, 18 credits of Hard Core Course, 6 credits Soft Core Course, 31 credits for Basic Technology Course, 46 credits for Applied Technology Course and 6 credits for Electives. The curriculum also covers topics like:

  • Technical seminars which help in detailed learning of a topic and also improve the speaking ability instilling confidence in the students.
  • Students are given projects on varied areas and some also make models for practical practice.
  • Final year students get exposure from a Survey Camp, where they do practical field work which helps to enhance team spirit and free interaction.
