Community Development Through Polytechnic

Shillong Polytechnic, being the approved AICTE Polytechnic, was selected by the Ministry of Human Resources & Development, Govt. of India for implementation of the Scheme of Community Development Through Polytechnic (C.D.T.P)

The main objectives of the Scheme are:

  • To carry out Need Assessment Surveys to assess the technology and training needs
  • To impart Skill Development Training to the intended target groups.
  • To provide Technical & Support Services to rural masses and slums dwellers.
  • To create awareness among the target groups about technological advancement and contemporary issues of importance.

The activities of C.D.T.P Scheme started in Shillong Polytechnic, Shillong on October 2010 with the Skill Development Training on the following trades:-

  • House Wiring (6 months – Shillong Polytechnic Centre)
  • Mobile Repairing (4 months–Shillong Polytechnic Centre)
  • Cutting & Tailoring (6 months – Shillong Polytechnic Centre)
  • Embroidery (6 months – Shillong Polytechnic Centre)
  • Cutting & Tailoring (6 months – Rilbong as Extension Centre)
  • Cutting & Tailoring (6 months – Mairang as Extension Centre)
  • Computer Application (6 months – Mairang as Extension Centre)

On July 2011, Shillong Polytechnic, Shillong has opened 2 more extension centres – Madan Laban for running two trades (Cutting & Tailoring and Computer Application) and Pynursla for one trade (Cutting & Tailoring). Continuation of Skill Development Training in the Main and Extension Centres will depend mainly on the availability of fund received from Ministry of Human Resource and Development. Other activities of CDTP Scheme shall also be taken up in due course depending on the availability of fund.
