One aspect of this cell is to provide students with the technical know-how in the industry. The institute has been sending students to various industries as part of the Industrial Tour Progamme within and outside the state. Besides this the students are also sent to various departments for training programmes.
Shillong Polytechnic has been contributing tremendously as far as technical human resource in the state is concerned. The Training and Placement Cell keeps track of the various job opportunities available for our students besides giving training on "How to face Interviews", by conducting mock interviews. The Cell also invites Companies to conduct Campus Interviews and as a result organizations including public and private sectors have been inducting our students. Many successful students have also joined various government organizations like MeSEB, PWD, PHE, Irrigration Department, to name only a few. Private Sector Companies like Star Cement, MCCL, TOPCEM, Lafarge and others too are keen to induct our students into their team as skilled technicians.
Campus Interview:
Our institute is fortunate enough to be able to conduct campus interview for the passed out and final year students in the institute to give the chance for the students to be employed even before they complete their courses. The companies that have come for the interview are ADHUNIC MSP CEMENT Ltd Thangskai , Jaintia Hills district Meghalaya and Mando India Ltd a Chennai , Tamilnadu based company which manufacture automobile parts & Hydraulic system for motor vehicles etc. Adhunic MSP Cement Ltd conducted an interview in the Institute on the 20th January 2011 for the passed out students of Electrical, Electronic & Mechanical Engineering.
Apprenticeship Training:
Shillong Polytechnic usually sends those willing passed out students for one (1) year Apprenticeship Training to different Government Departments, Industries/Factories and other organizations as per the list received form the Board of Practical Training, Kolkata and instruction from Directorate of Higher & Technical Education, Meghalaya.
Other Trainings:
Shillong Polytechnic also helped passed out students to get two months practical trainings ( November –December 2010) in Indo German Tool Room, Guwahati and six months training(Nov 2010 – May 2011) in Indo German Tool Room, Bubaneshwar & Indore. The course fee for the said training was free of cost as it was borne by the Central Government i.e. through Development For North Eastern Region ( DONER) Ministry .Following were the names of the passed out students sent for two and six months training during the academic session 2010-2011.
